About
Hwy 71 Brewing is a dog-friendly craft brewery tucked into an industrial strip just off Highway 71 west of Austin. The entire space is indoors and air-conditioned — a rare thing in the Hill Country — with comfortable leather furniture, a loft seating area, and big-screen TVs throughout.
It started as a hangout built around two things the founders love: well-made beer and having somewhere to bring the dog. Today it doubles as a low-key activity spot, with two pickleball courts, shuffleboard, and a golf simulator alongside the taproom.
The crowd is a mix of regulars unwinding after work, pickleball players grabbing a pint between games, and road-trippers who spotted the sign on their way back from Spicewood.
What to expect
The tap list rotates, but house favorites keep coming back: the Hilltop Haze hazy IPA, the malty Devil's Cove porter, and a regular Double IPA pour. Beers are available in full and half pints, so it's easy to sample your way across the board.
Food comes from rotating food trucks parked on site, and the courts and golf simulator are available to book by the hour — paddles included.
Highlights
Regulars come back for three things: it's genuinely dog-friendly *indoors*, the staff is warm and unpretentious, and there's always something to do beyond drinking — pickleball, shuffleboard, golf sim, or live music on the stage they roll onto the court.
Reviewers consistently call out how clean, comfortable, and well-kept the space is, and how refreshing the hazy IPAs are after a game.
Pricing
Beer prices are reasonable for the area, with half-pint pours available for anyone pacing themselves or working through the rotating list. Pickleball courts run about $40 per hour including paddles, split across however many of you are playing.
Good to know
It's set back in an industrial strip center, so Google's pin can be slightly off — look for the Hwy 71 Brewing sign just off the highway. The whole space is dog-friendly indoors, and it tends to stay welcoming right up to closing.
