About
Clarke's MMA & Boxing is a *family-owned combat sports gym* in Hamel, Minnesota, best known locally for its boxing and wrestling programs — disciplines few other area gyms teach as dedicated classes. Its competitive team fights under the name *Valhalla Fight Team*, while its class-based side serves everyone from first-time strikers to serious competitors.
The gym traces back multiple generations of the Clarke family in combat sports, from a *bare-knuckle boxer* in Ireland to a grandfather who wrestled Division I at Mankato State and later ran his own boxing and wrestling gym out of a barn in Rogers, Minnesota. Josh's dad opened the gym that became today's Clarke's in *2008*, and Josh later took over, merging in his own gym.
A couple of months ago the gym moved to a new Hamel location roughly *double the size* of its old space, with more mat room for classes and an in-progress recovery room.
What to expect
Classes cover *boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai/kickboxing*, split roughly 50-50 between fitness-focused members and active competitors. Wrestling in particular is a differentiator — most nearby gyms emphasize striking and grappling without a standalone wrestling class.
Members training just for fitness get a hard workout, self-defense fundamentals, and a training community; competitors get the gym's connections to help line up *real matchups and fights*, not just training for its own sake.
A kids program for ages roughly *6 to 12* is set to launch in the coming weeks, adding to the gym's current base of mostly teens through adults.
Highlights
Owner Josh Clarke was recently signed to *Zuffa Boxing* and the *BKFC* (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship), giving members the chance to train alongside someone actively competing at that level, whether they're there to work out or to compete themselves.
The gym runs on a genuine *family atmosphere* — Josh's dad still trains a few times a week, and his girlfriend, sister, and brother-in-law all train there too, alongside team outings like group UFC watch parties and other community events.
Pricing
Personal training runs as *30-minute or 60-minute sessions*, from a single intro session up through multi-session packages, with the per-session rate dropping as the package gets bigger — intro sessions start at *$30* for 30 minutes or *$50* for 60 minutes.
Standard group class membership pricing is listed on the gym's website; personal training packages are sold the same way, in bundles from 2 up to 24 sessions.
Good to know
Clarke's MMA & Boxing is located at *710 Hamel Rd* in Hamel/Medina, Minnesota — the gym moved here from Rogers a couple of months ago, so some directories and older listings may still show the previous address.
Hours run in the *evening on weekdays* (roughly 5–9 PM) and *late morning to early afternoon on weekends*, built around after-school and after-work training schedules.
There's no online booking system — reach the gym directly by *phone or email* to ask about classes, the upcoming kids program, or personal training.
